No other artist in Zimbabwe can compete with Jah Prayzah. Nick Mangwana speaks.
The permanent secretary for the Ministry of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, has caused uproar on Twitter after his comments on Jah Prayzah’s two upcoming albums.
Tweeting on Twitter, Nick Mangwana says, “I think in Zimbabwe there is only one musician who is now in a class of his own, and the only competition against him is from himself. Hence he has to drop two albums to compete against each other”.
Some fans were upset by the post; they felt it was made to discredit fellow chanter Winky D, and the discussion quickly turned political.
@Ceaser Cicero “If u can only listen to Jah Pryzar without trying to hate on the other musician u won’t be only a free man, u wil be mature too. At your age kuonekwa uchita nharo dzekuti whose e best musician, its awkward. Sirawo isusu. Ndimi chembere dzinonekwa pa nharo dza Messi na CR7 futi”
@Brighton “As a Government official, don’t do that. As a Communicator don’t fall in that trap of dividing Art. Promote the artist without casting hate of other artists. Communicators don’t do that in particular those paid by taxpayers”
@Gift Njirasi “Promote your favorite artist without creating division and giving them false crowns. Leave the comparisons to critics. How about encouraging @PoliceZimbabwe not to heckle @winkydonline when he performs? Thank you.”
@Mangena “Apa muri Permanent Secretary we Min of Information, hamuvoni kuti nebasa renyu hazvide kudero Bambo. Kana vanhu vavekutaura kuti ndimwi munoita music yavamwe vaimbi isaridziwe pamastation enyu mozoti vanotaurisa”
